Eligibility Criteria

In most colleges, the only criteria to pursue UG courses is that the candidate must have cleared their 10+2 from a recognized board. The criteria differ from college to college. In some institutions, at least 50 percent of aggregate marks are compulsory in their Class 12 exams. A few colleges also have specific requirements from the candidates such as securing passing marks in English in Class 12 as a necessary criterion.

 

Some colleges also have an age bar on enrollments and 22 years has been fixed as the upper age limit for the aspiring candidates of the General or Other Backward Classes (OBC) category and 25 years for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) category. Some institutes also conduct an entrance exam and a personal interview round so as to further understand a candidate’s field of interest and knowledge and their skill set. The selection is based on the performance of all three rounds.

 

Course Curriculum

 

Depending on the institution offering the course, the undergraduate programme (UG) in hotel management is usually a 3-year degree programme. If Catering Technology is also part of the curriculum as in Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT), the course duration gets extended to 4-years, with two semesters per year. The subjects taught in a hotel management course may have minor variations from college to college, but the overall curriculum is designed to introduce students to every aspect of hospitality, hotel management, and the leisure industry.
